Socialization and Your Puppy
 |
Dogs are social beings just like us. Dogs go through stages of socialization. It is important that they learn how to deal with other people and dogs early so that they are not fearful of them and know how to react to them socially.
Just like human children, puppies have a formulative stage for socialization that is critical for their development. This occurs between the ages of 4 to 12 weeks. Studies have shown that puppies that were denied human contact during that time period were fearful of people and almost impossible to train. Puppies need to be picked up and exposed to movements, noises and smells of everyday human life. The breeder should make sure the puppy is exposed to a wide variety of domestic stimuli. Ideally the puppy should be handled by a range of different people.
When you bring your new puppy home, you will want to continue your puppy’s socialization. What better way to do this than to dress your puppy up in some cute dog clothes and take him for a walk. It is guaranteed that people will want to socialize with you and your puppy.
